THE PIZZA HUT BUFFET IS ALIVE AND WELL!

Monday, July 24, 2023

Hot bar with pizza, pasta and bread sticks

The cold salad bar

Pizza Hut in Rochester, NH

In the 90's, I remember going to our local Pizza Hut for their buffet at lunch. There was a hot bar and a cold salad bar and it was all you can eat for around $4.99. Probably less. I thought the Pizza Hut buffet was long gone, until we made a stop in Rochester, New Hampshire. There it was. A big banner that read, "Buffet is Back." We had to try it out, and let me tell you, it felt like 1994 all over again.

There was the hot bar with pizza slices with a variety of toppings, baked ziti, those famous cheese bread sticks and cinnamon sticks. The cold salad bar was full of veggies like broccoli, cucumbers, cauliflower, along with slices ham, cheese and far too many salad dressings to choose from. All you can eat for $9.99. It's still a great deal. Our kids enjoyed it and so did mom and dad. A taste of unexpected nostalgia just off of the highway in New Hampshire.

Galliford's Restaurant & Tavern
Mendon, MA

There's nothing finer than a hearty Sunday brunch, but would you think you'd find one of the best around at a ZOO? Southwick's Zoo in Mendon, Massachusetts is home to Galliford's Restaurant & Tavern. They are open for lunch and dinner most days, but on Sundays, Galliford's puts together a brunch buffet that could compete with any Sunday brunch in Boston.

Their Sunday Brunch With Style features an array of mouth-watering foods on an all-you-can-eat buffet. Breakfast dishes include crème brulee French toast, eggs benedict, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, bagels, pastries, fruit salad and much more. The warm sticky buns with frosting are a MUST to try, along with their waffle station that's complete with berry compote and homemade whipped cream. Drinks like coffee, milk and juices are included, with an upcharge for alcoholic beverages like a Bloody Mary or mimosas.

Save room for their lunch buffet options. When we visited there was cod, beans, a couple of salads, and manicotti. If you possibly have room left after all of that, there's a table full of desserts. There were a couple types of cheesecakes, cupcakes, a smores pudding, tarts and cookies. It was the perfect way to end a delicious sweet and savory meal.

Be sure to make a reservation because the Sunday brunch is quite popular. Also, if you sit in the back of the restaurant, you can watch some of the zoo's animals in their habitats as you dine.

A COZY CHRISTMASTIME VISIT TO THE BRICK ALLEY PUB & RESTAURANT IN NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND

Tuesday, December 13, 2022

The halls are decked at the Brick Alley Pub.

Check out their salad bar!

Clam chowder

Fish and chips

The Brick Alley Pub & Restaurant
Newport, RI

It's always a good time to visit Newport, RI, but it's extra special at Christmas time. The shops are all decorated, there are Christmas trees everywhere and the restaurants are buzzing.

The Brick Alley Pub & Restaurant on busy Thames Street has been a favorite for locals and visitors for 40 years. Their menu is packed full of comfort foods and seafood favorites. I enjoyed their fish and chips with a cup of clam chowder. The Rhode Island-style breading on the fish is fantastic and really brings out the taste of the fish. Other seafood dishes include classic baked scallops, lemony scallops piccata and baked stuffed shrimp.

There are a number of apps to kick off your meal like calamari, ahi tuna sliders and spinach and artichoke dip. There are also a bunch of "Famous Nacho Platters" to choose from like their cheese nachos, chicken nachos and Texas Chili Nacho Platter. Entrees include several salads, steaks, burgers, and pub style pizzas. The Italian in me would love to try one of their pastas one of these days. There's lobster mac & cheese, chicken piccata, chicken parm, spice buffalo pasta and more.

One thing I really enjoy about the Brick Alley Pub is their fresh salad bar. You don't see salad bars that much anymore, especially in the wake of Covid, so it's wonderful that they have one. Fill up a plate and grab a soup along with your entree or as a meal in itself.

Brick Alley Pub has a full bar with plenty of beer on tap, along with an extensive wine list. There are margaritas, sangrias, a bunch of house specialty drinks and even frozen and warm libations. They say their warm Irish Coffee is the best and sounds like it would be a tasty sip on a chilly winter day.

Brick Alley Pub and Restaurant has it all. A variety of fantastic food and drinks, along with that salad bar. The service is also excellent. Our server forgot to include cheese on my wife's veggie burger, so when she ordered a hot cocoa, it was on the house!

For decades, my family has always made reservations at The Old Grist Mill Tavern in Seekonk, Massachusetts for special occasions. Graduations. Anniversaries. Birthdays. Why do we keep coming back? The food is fantastic. The portions are perfect. There's a waterfall right outside, which makes for a super pleasant dining experience. And, of course, there's their salad bar. There aren't so many restaurants with salad bars anymore, but the Old Grist Mill Tavern has kept theirs going much to every diners delight.

Every meal begins with a basket of their fresh bread, which also includes their famous cinnamon bread and butter. The Tavern offers all kinds of fun cocktails. In the summer, I love their fishbowl.

The Tavern is known for its seafood and steak. For dinner, there are dishes like Baked Boston Scrod, Sea Scallops and Shrimp Scampi over Linguini. Diners can also order fresh lobsters of various sizes right out of the tank.  They also offer prime rib, sirloin, filet mignon and ribeye steak combos. Pair your meat with grilled salmon, baked stuffed shrimp, lobster saute or a steamed lobster

Every summer, Old Grist Mill tavern celebrates lobster with their Lobster Feast. There are steamed lobsters, a lobster roll, seafood pie, lobster scampi and lobster salads. There are also lobster inspired starts like lobster bisque, lobster spring rolls and lobster stuffed mushrooms. I ordered their lobster mac & cheese. This rich dish is made of bowtie pasta, chunks of fresh lobster meat and topped off with crumbled Ritz crackers.

A FOOD LOVER'S DREAM COME TRUE AT SAN DIEGO'S PETCO PARK

Sunday, September 07, 2014
Let's head out to San Diego, home of the Padres. Some friends recently invited my girlfriend and I to a game at Petco Park. We enjoyed front row seats at the Lexus Home Plate Club. There was endless food and drinks. This is a look at the cheese section at their indoor buffet/restaurant.
Several chefs were working the buffet, preparing savory dishes like this duck confit gnocchi. It was so good!
I filled my plate at the buffet. Underneath all of that cheese is a tuna nicoise salad.
I had a few margaritas that night. This is white sangria I ordered for my girlfriend.
The indoor buffet closed after the second inning, but there was still tons of food to eat at a second buffet. This one had some really good pulled pork sliders, hot dogs, sausages, and salad.
This was my favorite part of the second buffet - a make your own nachos station. They also had a make your own sangria station.
Somehow, we still had room for dessert. They had ice cream, cakes, pastries, bowls of candy, bags of popcorn, Cracker Jack and so much more. I filled a plate with milk and white chocolate-covered strawberries. What a treat! A huge thanks to our friends Ellie and Steve for inviting us to this unforgettable night at Petco Park.

EXPERIENCE SUNDAY BRUNCH AT SKY IN NORWOOD, MA

Thursday, October 10, 2013
The chocolate fountain is flowing Sundays at Sky in Norwood, Massachusetts. Their popular Sunday brunch is back and just as popular than ever. It's buffet style and there are endless options. For breakfast, they'll make you an omelet with just about anything you want stuffed inside. You can also watch as chefs prepare waffles and pancakes for you. Make your way down the breakfast buffet and fill your plate with sausage, scrambled eggs, two kinds of crispy bacon, home fries, eggs benedict and their amazing cinnamon raisin French toast. You can even toast yourself a bagel or grab a home-made pastry. I went for breakfast first and saved room for round two: lunch!

Stop by the chef's carving station for your main course. They had stuffed pork, roast and ham when I was there. Much like their breakfast buffet, their lunch selection often rotates. They have New England scrod, two kinds of mac & cheese, potatoes, seasonal veggies and some really good chicken! They also have many salads to choose from, a huge cheese plate, mozzarella and olives with feta.

Save room for dessert! This is the highlight of the meal. Sky has a huge chocolate fountain with fruits and brownies for dipping. The dessert table also has all kinds of chocolatey treats, pastries, cakes and pies. Sky even has a full table of gluten-free desserts.

PIZZA BUFFET AT THE GAS LIGHT PIZZA PUB IN PORTSMOUTH, NH

Wednesday, July 10, 2013
It's not often that you run into an all you can eat pizza buffet, so when you do, sit down and eat like you're never going to eat again.

Portmouth Gas Light's Downtown Brick Oven & Pizza Pub is famous for their mouth-watering pizza lunchtime buffet. Located in the basement of the Portsmouth Gas Light Company, this place serves up some delicious bar pizza at a delicious price. Go during lunchtime during the week and you'll find that amazing the pizza buffet. It features every kind of pie you can think of. There are cheese, Mediterranean and veggie pizzas to satisfy picky eaters and vegetarians. But if you're like me, you'll want to dig into some unique combinations of toppings that you won't find anywhere else. If you're lucky, one of the pizzas on the buffet will be their "Molly Malone" topped with potato, onion and bacon. It's incredible. I also enjoyed their pepperoni & hamburger and meatball pizzas. The pizzas rotate in and out, so be quick! The chefs bake them in a huge brick oven right behind the buffet, so feel free to make a request or ask them about any of their creations.

As if the pizza isn't enough, there are also yummy cheese bread sticks and penne with Alfredo sauce on the buffet. All of this - unlimited slices of pizza - for just $5.99! It gets better. Draft pints of beer are only $2 with the buffet. It just doesn't get any better than that!

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: THE WENDY'S SUPERBAR

Friday, February 01, 2013
Ahhh, The Wendy's SuperBar. You'll only remember this one if you're of a certain age. The SuperBar had a taco bar and who could forget the lukewarm spaghetti and sauce! It was a shrine to gluttony, that sadly, no longer exists. Must have been to expensive and pain for workers. It does live on in this YouTube clip. Enjoy!
