THE BAGEL TABLE OPENS IN ASHLAND

Sunday, December 02, 2018

They also bake sweets like cupcakes and whoopie pies.

Ashland, Massachusetts

There's a new place to kick off your day in Ashland, Massachusetts. The Bagel Table is now open for business. The owners started off selling their bagels at local farmer's markets. They were so popular that they opened their first store in Chestnut Hill, and now, this second shop on Main Street in Ashland.

They specialize in New York style bagels in a variety of flavors from asiago cheese to sesame. Top one off with cream cheese or make a sandwich out of it. They also sell croissants and muffins. The Bagel Table also serves lunch. I enjoy their Italian sandwich, which is stuffed full of meats and cheese. I also ordered a cup of their clam chowder with bagel croutons. This chowder was FANTASTIC, comparable to chowders found in Maine or on the Cape.

The Bagel Table also bakes up a variety of desserts like cupcake, cookies, and whoopie pies. They also sold pies for customers at Thanksgiving.

THERE'S SOMETHING SPECIAL IN THE WATER AT BROOKYLN WATER BAGELS

Monday, November 13, 2017
Coffee ice cubes
Onion bagel with hash browns
Watch the bagel-making process.
The Framingham location is Brooklyn Water Bagels only shop in New England.
BROOKLYN WATER BAGEL
www.brooklynwaterbagel.com

There's something in the water in Brooklyn that makes their bagels taste so good, according to Brookyn Water Bagels. The small chain says the water is so key to making their bagels, that it filters the tap water at all of its locations and adds unique elements only found in Brooklyn water. All of their bagels are boiled in that Brooklyn water and baked fresh at all of their shops.

Brooklyn Water Bagels' only New England location is in Framingham, Massachusetts. Customers can watch how bagels are made before ordering. There are many types of bagels to choose from, including multi-colored bagels for the kids. I enjoyed their onion bagel with cream cheese. The coffee was an extra-special treat. All of their iced coffees, known as Cubstas, come with coffee ice cubes. It's a pretty tasty way to set themselves apart from all of the other bagel places. A few of their coffees are named after Larry King. He's a shareholder in the company and owns half of its Beverly Hills franchise.

Breakfast sandwiches are served all day. For lunch, try one of Brooklyn Water Bagels deli classics served on a bagel. Choose from favorites like a tuna melt, hot ham & swiss, roast beef and hot corned beef.

FINAGLE A BAGEL BAKERY & CAFE AND TEST KITCHEN IS NOW OPEN IN NEWTON

Monday, January 02, 2017
Finagle A Bagel has opened an all new test kitchen concept in the Auburndale section of Newton, Massachusetts. This cafe just opened in November and is right next door to Finagle A Bagel's corporate headquarters.

The test kitchen has a spacious dining room overlooking a huge kitchen where the bagels are made. You'll have a front row seat to watch the bagel-making process as you eat breakfast or lunch. The bagels made here are shipped out to local stores and other Finagle A Bagel shops. The test kitchen also has Finagle's signature buzz saw which is used to slice their bagels in half.

What makes this test kitchen different from its retail shops is customers will find sandwiches and sweets that aren't available anywhere else. Right now, they have a chicken piccata bagel sandwich as a special. The test kitchen is also offering bagel press sandwiches right now. I enjoyed their "Traditional" press sandwich with ham, crispy bacon, egg and cheddar cheese. One of the workers recommended it on an Asiago bagel and I'm glad I listened to her!

The test kitchen is kind of off of the beaten path in Newton. It's tucked in on Rowe Street. Put it in MapQuest and you'll find it. Give them some business. You'll be glad you did!

EAT UP NE FAVORITE: SPoT!

Saturday, April 30, 2016
Step into SPoT! in Norwood, Massachusetts and let the nostalgia take over. With countless bottles of rare soda and shelves of candy, SPoT! is a modern twist on the 50's-style cafe.

The amount of soda they have for sale is mind-blowing. Now, I'm not talking about five flavors of Coke and Pepsi. I'm talking sodas that are tough to find like candy cane and sugar cookie. They even have a gingerbread soda. It really is something. Customers can take their time checking out those drinks, because, yes, the lines at this local hot spot tend to be long. But, don't worry, it's all worth it.

SPoT! makes all of their bagels in house. There are trays and trays of them on racks. These bagels are MASSIVE and crusty. They're everything a perfect bagel should be. I love their bacon, egg and cheese bagel. In an age of fast food, it was truly something to watch the cook crack an egg right in front of me to make this sandwich. It doesn't get any fresher than that.

SPoT! also has a variety of hot and iced coffees. I loved their mint chocolate coffee. It wasn't just chocolate flavor. They pour some chocolate syrup right into the cup.

It doesn't get much better than SPoT!. Whether you're near or far, take some time out on a weekend morning to check this place out. You'll be glad you did.

THE BAGEL PLACE OPENS IN MASSACHUSETTS!

Friday, February 26, 2016
For years, The Bagel Place has been a hot spot in Burlington, Vermont. Now, they've just opened a new location in Newton, Massachusetts. The Bagel Place makes all of its big and crusty bagels fresh, in house. There are so many bagels to choose from like onion, blueberry, everything, cinnamon sugar, cheddar dill, Montreal spice and cracked wheat. Cheese lovers like me will love their Asiago cheese bagel. I enjoy it with butter to really bring out the cheese flavor. The Bagel Place also rotates special bagels. They had a S'mores bagel when I visited. They also have a bunch of homemade cream flavored cheeses like strawberry, honey walnut, scallion and vegetable.

The Bagel Place also offers breakfast sandwiches, which make for the perfect hearty breakfast. They are also open for lunch and have a full menu of sandwiches. I'm interested in trying "The Vermonter," which has smoked turkey, ham, cheddar and apple slices. Other sandwiches include a Caprese, hummus with veggies, chicken guac, classic Italian and spicy chicken. You can also create your own salad or choose from one of their soups of the day.

The Bagel Place is open for breakfast and lunch everyday.

Sweet & salty: onion bagel with strawberry cheesecake cream cheese
Eat Up New England is just back from 4th of July weekend in New York City and there's a lot to share with you! Let's start out at Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company. This place is so popular that there are often lines out the door! They make all of their own HUGE New York bagels. There is every kind of bagel you can think of. They also have an enormous choice of toppings. Every week they have a cream cheese of the week. This week it's strawberry cheesecake, which I really liked. I also enjoyed one of their bagel sandwiches - a bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel. It was so filling that I barely had room for lunch! No bagel is complete without some coffee. They have a large coffee bar with hot and cold coffees. I enjoyed their hazelnut iced coffee. If you're not in the mood for a bagel, Brooklyn Bagel also has omelets, lunch sandwiches, soups and pasta salads.

HAND-ROLLED, WOOD-FIRED MONTREAL BAGELS AT MYER'S BAGELS IN VERMONT

Sunday, November 03, 2013
Drive too fast and you might just miss Myer's Bagels in Burlington, Vermont. This bagel shop is as unassuming as it gets, tucked in off of the road and advertised only by a small sign. Myer's doesn't really need any advertising. All of the locals and visitors know all about their Montreal-style bagels.

So, what is a Montreal-style bagel? Walk right in the front door of Myer's and you'll find out. Montreal-style bagels are always baked in a wood-fired oven. You'll see it and feel the warmth from the oven right away. They are also handmade. You'll see workers hand rolling these bad boys before they are put into the oven. Myer's offers all of the traditional bagel flavors and then some. A bagel and schmear is just two bucks. They also offer breakfast sandwiches, hash and fruit yogurt. Stop by for lunch and you'll find a variety of Vermont inspired sandwiches like "The Causeway," with curry chicken salad lettuce and tomato, and the "Groovy UV," with hummus, cucumber, onion, lettuce, tomato and sprouts. They also offer a few salads and soups. Order whatever you want, but be sure to try one of their bagels!

EAT UP NE FAVORITE: BAGELS & CREAM IN NORTH ATTLEBORO, MA

Saturday, June 29, 2013
One of the best spots for a bagel and sandwich in southern New England is Bagels & Cream in North Attleboro.  The food here is so good that there is often a line out the door. Don't worry - it goes fast.

The bagels are made in house and come in a number of flavors - onion, everything, French toast, cinnamon, asiago cheese, chocolate chip and so many more. They'll top off your bagel with one of their many cream cheeses. Be sure to pick up a bagel or two and get one of their amazing iced coffees. They have so many unique flavors that rotate from day to day including snickerdoodle, pumpkin, banana hazelnut and chocolate raspberry truffle. My favorite is the blueberry cinnamon crumble iced coffee. I can't tell you how flavorful and delicious the iced coffees at Bagels & Cream are. Be sure to try one! You'll be hooked.

Bagels & Cream is also open for lunch. You can order a bagel sandwich or try one of the many other sandwiches on their menu. They offer a Thanksgiving sandwich with turkey and stuffing that sounds delicious. They also sell salads and fresh fruit cups.

GET YOURSELF A GREEN BAGEL!

Saturday, March 16, 2013
Sure, it looks freaky, but green bagels are a tradition on St. Patrick's Day. For nearly 20 years, Bruegger's Bagels has been dying their plain bagels green for the holiday. As you can see, I got mine there this morning! Rosenfeld's Bagels in Newton Centre is also baking up green bagels this weekend.

GRAB A BAGEL AT ROSENFELD'S

Saturday, February 16, 2013
Big, crispy bagels with a hearty portion of cream cheese. It's a tasty breakfast that can be found at Rosenfeld Bagel Co. in Newton Centre in Newton, Massachusetts. This place is a legend in Newton and for good reason. They make their own bagels right in the shop and they come in a bunch of tasty flavors. There are plain, onion, everything, salt, egg and even chocolate bagels. Top off your bagel with a variety of cream cheeses. Rosenfeld is also known for its delicious challah, which I never seem to leave without buying. Open since 1972, Rosenfeld Bagels is a favorite in Newton and with the critics. It's won the Improper Bostonian's Best of Boston Award for bagels. Be sure to check out the Rosenfeld Bagel Company, but don't stop by early in the week. They are CLOSED on Mondays and Tuesdays.
