MUFFINS LIKE GRANDMA MAKES AT COUNTRY DESSERTS IN NEWTON

Lemon poppyseed muffin
Muffins are the star of this bakery.
Country Desserts is all decorated for the fall!
Country Desserts
Newton, MA

Country Desserts is my favorite bakery in the Newton area all because of one thing: their muffins. These huge homemade delights are crispy on the outside and perfectly moist on the inside. My favorite is their lemon poppyseed, which often sells out. There are many other flavors including blueberry, apple, cranberry nuts, chocolate chip, corn and banana nut. This time of the year, they are also baking pumpkin cream cheese muffins.

Country Desserts also sells fantastic chocolate cupcakes, pies and cookies. Check out Eat Up New England's archives for more on those sweet treats. ,

FALL IS IN FULL SWING AT PADDY'S PUB!

Apple Cider Sangria
Paddy's Pub
West Newton, MA
www.paddys.us

If you're looking for some spiked hot cider, pumpkin beer and some hearty fall flavors, Paddy's Pub in West Newton, Massachusetts is calling your name. This Eat Up New England Favorite has just been renovated and is serving all of the tastes that make autumn such a great season.

Let's start out at the bar. Every fall, I order their apple cider sangria. It's a big ole glass with a cinnamon stick for that perfect fall flavor. Other fall libations include a pumpkin spice martini, autumn mule and Elesha's Hot Mulled Cider, which is spiked with Applejack brandy or Captain Morgan spiced rum. Paddy's also has an extensive beer menu with plenty of pumpkin brews and Oktoberfests for all.

Prepare for hibernation with one of their special entrees including pumpkin ravioli, maple & mustard ravioli or Catherine's Flatbread, which is topped with butternut squash, Craisons and ricotta & mozzarella cheeses. I enjoyed their Pasquale's Pasta, with fresh fusilli, crumbled Italian sausage and kale. If that doesn't fill you up, nothing will! , , ,

BUY A PINK DRINK AT STACY'S JUICEBAR TO BENEFIT NEW BREAST CANCER CENTER

Stacy's Wellness Cocktail
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Stacy’s Juicebar in Needham, Massachusetts is hosting a month-long fundraiser to benefit Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham's BreastCare Center. Stacy Madison, the founder of Stacy's Pita Chips and owner of Stacy's Juicebar, along with Needham's Julie Weissman Havsy are hosting the fundraiser to honor Julie’s sister, Stacy Gold, who passed away from cancer.

For every $5 “Wellness Cocktail” smoothie sold in the month of October, Stacy's Juicebar will donate $15 to the hospital’s new BreastCare Center to remember Stacy Gold and raise money for breast cancer prevention and treatment. They are hoping to raise $15,000. Customers will also get a free bag of Stacy's Pita Chips for buying the Wellness Cocktail.

The Wellness Cocktail is made of blended of pineapple and cherry juices with oranges and lemons added in. Customers can also try samples before ordering it. I stopped by today and was happy to see several people ordering the Wellness Cocktail.
