MCDONALD'S BRINGS BACK CLASSIC HAPPY MEAL TOYS

Saturday, November 09, 2019
McDonald's is celebrating the 40th anniversary of their Happy Meals by releasing some of its most popular toys for a very limited time. There's a Furby, three McNugget guys, a Tamagotchi, My Little Pony, McDonald's characters, Transformers and many more. The best of the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. The toys come in white plastic bags, so you don't know what you're getting until you open one up. You can see my collection so far. I'm hoping to add a vintage Grimace to my collection. These retro toys are only available for five days, three as of this writing, through Monday, November 11.

EAT UP IN NYC: CHICK'NCONE

Saturday, January 28, 2017
Chicken and waffles have been a southern staple for a long time. Fortunately for us New Englanders, chicken and waffles have popped up on menus close to home. NOW, there's a new twist on this food favorite... and it's one you'll still have to travel for.

Chick'nCone has been delighting New Yorkers for a few years. This food truck serves crispy, hand breaded chicken IN WAFFLE CONES! Choose from ranch, BBQ and Cinna Maple sauces. They make the chicken right in front of you in minutes. These crispy cones are the perfect tasty snack or quick meal. You don't even need a fork!

Eat Up New England found Chick'nCone at the Winter Village at Bryant Park in December 2016. The pop up location is gone now, but check them out on social media to see where they will be cluckin' and truckin' next.

INSIDE OF THE SPARKLING NEW CHICK-FIL-A IN FRAMINGHAM

Wednesday, February 17, 2016
Check out those tents. There is no doubt that something special is going on at 1 Worcester Road in Framingham, Massachusetts. On February 18, 2016 around 6:30 in the morning, this brand new Chick-Fil-A will open its doors to the community. These people started camping out 24 hours in advance to be among the first to step inside. When I left around 2pm today, there were about two dozen people planning to spend the night. The first 100 customers in line will get free Chick-Fil-A for a year! Until then, they certainly aren't going unnoticed. They've been hooked up with free food and drinks.
Eat Up New England was lucky enough to be one of the first to step inside the new Chick-Fil-A in Framingham and check out that delicious spread of food! Pictured clockwise from left: Chicken biscuit with fresh fruit and hash browns, Waffle Potato Fries, chicken wrap with fresh fruit, breakfast wrap, Greek Yogurt with fruit, Chick-Fil-A Cobb Salad, Spicy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich and their Grilled Market Salad with apples, blueberries and bleu cheese crumbles and Chick-Fil-A Nuggets.
Chick-Fil-A goodies including their famous Chocolate Chunk Cookies. They are baked fresh in house everyday. I brought them to work and they were a massive hit with my co-workers. Other desserts include milkshakes (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and cookies & cream), ice cream cones and their AMAZING frosted lemonade. Order this when you visit!
Eat Up New England got to step behind their counter for their Chick-Fil-A Backstage Restaurant Tour. (Sorry, no pictures allowed.) All of their workers were on hand training. One young lady was making fresh-squeezed lemonade. Chick-Fil-A is one of the largest buyers of Sunkist lemons worldwide! I also saw their pressure cookers. There are a bunch of them to cook their chicken. They've been cooking it in peanut oil since the beginning some 50 years ago. Another fun fact I learned on the tour, they use White Lily Flour for their tasty breakfast biscuits.
Check out Chick-Fil-A's indoor playground. It's inside so children can enjoy it all year long. There's even a lower level with a play area for toddlers.
On the tour, I learned that Chick-Fil-A is committed to healthy food. These are their new grilled chicken nuggets. They are only 140 calories without the sauce! They are also offering a new Superfood Side - a blend of kale, Broccolini, dried sour cherries and topped with a maple vinaigrette dressing. I sampled that, too, and really enjoyed it. It's a good alternative if you want to skip the fries but still indulge in a chicken sandwich.
Check out their cozy dining room. Chick-Fil-A has also been honored for their speedy drive-thru service. 90% of their breakfast business is done at the drive-thru, while 60% of their day customers use the drive-thru. All Chick-Fil-A's are open six days a week. They have always been closed on Sundays to give workers a day with their families, something they really appreciate.
Welcome to Framingham! Community events will be posted on this board. The owner of this franchise is Mark Parker, a longtime MetroWest resident.
Before today, I had only tried Chick-Fil-A at the airport in Atlanta. Today, I got a real taste for why so many people love this restaurant. I loved their Spicy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich. It has just enough spice and the chicken is so fresh and tasty. The fries are soooo good. I learned about their Chick-Fil-A Sauce today. It's a blend of BBQ sauce, Ranch and honey mustard. It was created in one of their stores. It's perfect for dipping those waffle fries in or to spread on your sandwich.
Fresh-squeezed lemonade, Frosted Lemonade and my restaurant tour hat!
Chick-Fil-A is giving back to the community by collecting books from customers and donating them.

MCDONALD'S INTRODUCES CHOCOLATE-COVERED FRENCH FRIES

Tuesday, January 19, 2016
McDonald's is taking a chance with their classic French fries. In Japan, they are introducing chocolate-covered fries. Mickey D's says the new fries are the perfect combination of sweet and salty. They are not going to be available in the USA anytime soon. If they were, would you try them?

BURGERS, WAFFLE FRIES & SHAKES AT GRIDDLER'S IN BOSTON

Monday, December 21, 2015
Eat Up New England is always up for a good burger. I recently checked out the Griddler's on Boston Common for lunch. The first thing that caught my eye was the ambiance. I loved the logo and colorful decor inside the restaurant.

The menu is packed with tasty fast food favorites. There are burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips and grilled cheese. They also have a veggie burger and an egg sandwich on the menu. Get your sandwich anyway you want it with all kinds of add-ons like jalapenos, caramelized onions, roasted peppers and sauteed mushrooms. The sides are rockin' with waffle fries, beef chili, fried pickles (Grillo's pickles!), tots and onion strings to choose from. For dessert, there are several flavors of ice cream to choose from, shakes, several ice cream sandwiches and even chocolate-covered bacon!

Right now, Griddler's has two Boston locations: Boston Common and Beacon Hill.

INSIDE THE NEW b.good IN NEWTON

Wednesday, June 03, 2015

Rapidly expanding local restaurant chain b.good has just opened up a new location in Newton, Massachusetts. The restaurant is open and airy. There's plenty of room for their fresh mint to grow. The service was fast when I visited on a Tuesday for lunch. We ordered and got our food in less than 10  minutes. I usually enjoy their Adopted Luke burger, but this time I tried their southwestern chicken salad. The combination of flavors like avocado, corn, black beans and the chicken was delicious.

By the way, be sure to join the b.good family and download their app. They send out offers for free shakes, burgers, salads and fries all of the time. We got a free vanilla shake yesterday.

DUNKIN DONUTS AND CHIK-FIL-A OPENINGS BRING OUT FOOD FANS

Wednesday, September 03, 2014
Time to make the donuts.

We all love our Dunkin Donuts here on the East Coast. Now, the West Coast is getting a chance to experience Coolattas and Munchkins. Yesterday, the first Dunkin Donuts opened its doors in Southern California. More than 300 coffee and donut cravers spend more than 24 hours waiting for the donut shop to open up in Santa Monica. Dunks is starting a major expansion in California with about 100 stores slated to open.

Back on the East Coast, Chick-Fil-A fans are lining up in Warwick, Rhode Island. The store will open up at 6 a.m. on Thursday. People are camping out because the first 100 customers inside will get free meals at Chick-Fil-A for a year.

WOULD YOU TRY A KRISPY KREME CHEESEBURGER

Wednesday, May 28, 2014
If you don't care about your health at all, why not try this Krispy Kreme cheeseburger? A restaurant in San Diego called Chicken Charlie's is debuting this burger at the San Diego County Fair from June 7 to July 16. You can get two patties nestled in between two Krispy Kreme donuts. If you'd like to go straight to the E.R., go for the triple cheeseburger option. I love cheeseburgers. I love Krispy Kreme donuts. Those super-sweet donuts with hamburger meat just doesn't sound appetizing to me.

ANGER OVER SHAKE SHACK'S NEW FRENCH FRIES

Friday, May 16, 2014
Out with the old: crinkle-cut fries are being replaced
President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were chowing down today at a Shake Shack in Washington, D.C. But I wonder if they noticed a difference in the French fries?

The mega popular burger joint is changing its fries, according to the Boston Globe. The wickedly good (but frozen) crinkle-cut fries are being replaced with hand-cut fries. You know, those thin fries with the potato skins still on them that you can get at so many other restaurants. Shake Shack claims the new fries are fresher, but many people are jumping on Twitter to complain. I haven't tried the new fries, but as a huge fan of their crinkle-cut fries, I'm not so sure about this change. To be continued...

HARDEE'S RESTAURANT CHAIN IS COMING TO NEW ENGLAND!

Tuesday, October 01, 2013
Just in case you don't have enough options for a burger already, you'll soon have another. Hardee's is expanding into the Northeast. Over the next five years, the fast food chain will open about 200 stores in the Northeast. They'll open in New York and New Jersey first, and then in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Hardee's is known for its huge burgers and provocative ads, like this one:

EXCITING NEW DINING OPTIONS AT NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY

Wednesday, April 03, 2013
As a proud graduate of Northeastern University, I return to campus several times a year to see what's new. The Curry Student Center has a fresh, new look, along with several new places to grab a quick bite. The Taco Bell, West End and On-The-Go Convenience are still there and joined by several exciting new restaurants, including Popeye's, Sweet Tomatoes Pizza (first location in Boston) and UBurger.

With so much buzz about burger joints in and around Boston lately, I decided to try out UBurger for the first time. They have a bunch of different burgers on their menu, along with hot dogs, fries and shakes. I ordered the UCheeseburger, a classic burger with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and their house spread. It was only $5 and perfectly filling. I'm looking forward to going back to try some of their other burgers.

INSIDE THE SHAKE SHACK IN CHESTNUT HILL

Thursday, March 21, 2013
The hype. The buzz. The waiting. All of it came to an end today in Chestnut Hill. It was time to try the Shake Shack for the first time.
Yesterday, Twitter blew up with food lovers talking about the grand opening of Massachusetts' first and only Shake Shack. I knew it would be a mob scene, so I waited very patiently for today. I got there just after one o'clock and joined the line was outside of the building.
It took about 25 minutes to get inside. From there... the tough task of deciding what to eat.
The Shake Shack dining room
You get an up close and personal look at the kitchen as you place your order.
It took about 10 minutes to get my food once I ordered.
I got a vanilla shake. Really good!
Their fries are to die for. Might as well go all out and get cheese on top.
I got the SmokeShack burger. It comes with bacon, cheese, cherry pepper and ShackSauce.
The Shake Shack certainly lived up to all of the hype. Just the perfect combination of food from start to finish. Every single French fry was golden brown and crisp. The burger was an explosion of tasty flavors. I'm looking forward to trying out many of the other items on their menu including the black & white shake, frozen custard, their hot dogs and beer. Shake Shack, welcome to Massachusetts!

SHAKE SHACK TO OPEN IN CHESTNUT HILL, MA NEXT WEEK

Wednesday, March 13, 2013
The Harlem Shake may be ruling NYC right now, but the Shake Shack has been a hot spot in the Big Apple for more than a decade. I'm psyched that the restaurant will be opening its first New England location next week! On Wednesday, March 20, the Shake Shack will open for business in Chestnut Hill at a new development called The Street. Can't wait. I was drooling as I looked at their menu online. It's simple. They seem to do what works. There are a few burgers, crinkle fries, hot dogs and frozen custards to choose from. They even have beer & wine and special treats for dogs. I'll be one of the first in line and will report back. Until then, tease your taste buds with a look at their Website: www.shakeshack.com.

THE SHAMROCK SHAKE IS HERE!

Monday, February 11, 2013
It's that time of the year. The legendary Shamrock Shake is back at McDonald's. It's worth breaking your diet.

And while you're at it, why not grab a Filet O Fish?
