(Closed) THERE'S A NEW STEAKHOUSE IN TOWN: FLANK

Wednesday, June 15, 2016
Steak Frites
Hand-cut Pappardelle

UPDATE: Flank has closed for good.

Bring your appetite when you dine at Flank in Waltham, Massachusetts. You're going to get full.

Flank is the latest restaurant to open in a new development in the city. There's a huge space for dining inside, along with a bar, but we opted to eat outside. Every meal starts with their delicious bread and their attentive servers make sure to keep filling your glass with water.

Flank has a raw bar, soups and salads, but we skipped all that so we would have room for the main course. Steaks range from the $34 Brandt Hanger Steak to the $115 Long Bone Tomahawk, which is recommended for two. I ordered the steak frites plate. The portion was absolutely massive and they didn't skimp on the truffle fries either. There are a bunch of hearty sides to choose from including a potato puree, fingerling potatoes, spring vegetables, mac & cheese, stuffed mushrooms, wilted spinach, broccoli crowns and roasted sweet onions.

There are plenty of options for non-steak eaters. There's Maine Day Boat Scallops, Salmon Wellington, Hand-cut Pappadrdelle and an Herb Brined Half Chicken. Salads include a Bluefin Tartar, wedge, Herbed Beef Carpaccio and Crab Louie.

FINE DINING AT NEWTON'S BOKX 109

Monday, January 05, 2015
This is their menu, folded up in a paper bag.
Cod with fingerling potatoes and corn succotash
Lobster mac & cheese
It's a new year and that makes it the perfect time to try out the cuisine at some restaurants I've never been to before. On Saturday night, my fiancee and I braved the snow to enjoy dinner at Bokx 109 American Prime in Newton, Massachusetts. It's inside of the Hotel Indigo. The valet even parks the car for you.

The ambiance was warm and vibrant, with a jazz band setting a relaxed tone during dinner. Bokx 109 boasts an extensive wine menu, but I went for a Harpoon Winter Warmer. Apps include wings, crab cakes, mussels and oysters. There are traditional salads including Caesar, beet and a wedge. At $15/bowl, soups like their lobster & seafood chowder and caramelized onion, are on the pricy side, but I bet they are very satisfying.

I ordered the cod for dinner and added a small side of mac & cheese to go along with it. The cod was among the finest fish dishes I've ever had the pleasure of eating. It was cooked perfectly on a bed a fingerling potatoes and corn succotash. There were small bits of glazed ham in the succotash that made the flavors of this dish just pop. Somehow, I saved room for the hearty lobster mac & cheese, which was nice and cheesy and included just enough lobster.

One of the highlights on Bokx 109's menu is a New England lobster boil with mussels, clams and scallops. Also on their mouth-watering menu are land & sea tacos, broiled scallops, chicken, short ribs and salmon. Who could forget the steak? Cuts run from the $32 Sirloin Tri Tips to the $60 103 Cowboy Ribeye. Pair your steaks with sides like grilled asparagus, sweet potato fries, brussel sprouts and short rib mac & cheese. There are a few burgers on the menu, including a hearty veggie burger, along with several flatbreads. Desserts include creme brulee, cheesecake and chocolate molton cake.

Bokx 109 is open for dinner only. In the summer, you can order from their menu while relaxing by Hotel Indigo's outdoor pool.

DEL FRISCO'S IN BOSTON

Friday, March 08, 2013
Whoever came up with the term, "eat like a king," probably ate at Del Frisco's. This amazing steakhouse is located in only a few big cities across the United States and we're lucky to have one in Boston. You can find it in the trendy and ever-growing Seaport District.

If you like wine, then this is the place for you. They have the largest wine menu I've ever seen. There's also a full bar where I ordered the delicious drink you see pictured above. It's called the VIP and is made with vodka-infused pineapple. The VIP is their signature drink and I'd highly recommend trying it.

There are a variety off apps on the menu. We had the cheesesteak eggrolls, which are to die for.  Order these! For the main event, there are several steaks to choose from. I tried the prime strip. Now, I'm not a steak person. At all. The last time I had a steak was probably when my mother cooked it more than a decade ago when I was in high school. I figured, if I was going to have a steak, this was the place to do it. Absolutely amazing. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. If you don't like steak, they have several entree salads and a few fish options.

Side dishes are a la carte. We tried the lobster mac & cheese and the king crab gnocchi. Both incredible. We had no room for dessert, but the cheesecake and lemon cake looked tempting.
