The hot and sunny days of summer mean it's time to pick blueberries! There is no shortage of places to pick here in New England. Eat Up New England and family recently went on a picking spree at Tangerini's Farm in Millis, Massachusetts. Pick them by the pint or by the quart. Fresh blueberries are so much better than the ones sitting in the store. Customers can also pick strawberries, sunflowers and pumpkins during the year.

Tangerini's also has an ice cream shop, serving a variety of hard flavors. It's the perfect treat after picking blueberries in the hot sun. I'd also recommend one of their root beer floats.

If that wasn't enough, they also serve breakfast and lunch at The Farmer's Porch. Egg sandwiches, blueberry pancakes, donuts, bagels and other pastries fill the breakfast menu. For lunch, there's a blueberry feta salad, flatbread, burgers, wraps, fried chicken sandwich and more. Beer and wine is also served, along with cold drinks like iced coffee and iced tea.

The massive new Wegmans at the Natick Mall finally opened today. Eat Up New England stopped by this afternoon and there was plenty of parking in the parking garage. The store was packed with first-time shoppers, which is to be expected on opening day. 

This mega grocery store features two huge floors. Upstairs, there is a bakery, fruits/veggies section, prepared meals, hot/cold buffets, a large cheese section, seafood, and a restaurant called The Burger Bar. Downstairs, customers will find frozen & refrigerated foods, dairy, cereals and a large wine, beer and liquor section. 

The soon-to-open Blue Dalia restaurant is also on the first floor. Roberto Santibanez will serve as the Mexican restaurant's culinary director. He is the chef and owner of Fonda's third locations in New York City. Blue Dalia opens on May 4th.

IT'S PRIME BLUEBERRY PICKIN' TIME AT WILDWOOD BERRY FARM IN VERMONT

It's blueberry harvest time all around New England. For the first time, Eat Up New England stopped by Wildwood Berry Farm in East Dorest, Vermont. This place is nestled in the woods. You'll know your there when you see their big wooden bears guarding the crop.

 Wildwood Berry Farm is owned by a former newspaper man named Rick and his wife, Brenda. They tend to the countless blueberry bushes themselves and welcome visitors to their property every summer. The Vermont mountain air makes for optimal growing conditions for their high bush blueberries. There were still tons of blueberry last weekend, but Rick told be they only have a couple of more weeks to go this season. 

 Wildwood also has their own tasty homemade berry popsicles, jams, honey, honey straws and syrups in their country store. They also make several Vermont and blueberry-themed shirts. I bought one with a blueberry Bernie Sanders that says, "Feel The Blue."

The best breakfast Eat Up New England enjoyed all summer was at Rose's Berry Farm in South Glastonbury, Connecticut. Every Sunday, Rose's offers their highly popular Breakfast With A View. Choose from pancakes, French toast or a Belgian waffle. They are all topped with blueberries picked right there in the farm and some delicious homemade whipped cream. Eat Up NE loved the pancakes with a side of bacon.  

Not only is the food amazing but you get to enjoy it on a large open air porch overlooking Rose's Berry Farm. Breakfast With A View goes from June to October, so there's still time to have one of the best breakfasts in New England.

DELICIOUS CIDER DONUTS, COFFEE & MORE AT BOLTON ORCHARDS

Eat Up New England discovered Bolton Orchards today while passing through Bolton, Massachusetts.  This place has everything you need. They have huge bins of apples, vegetables, jams, cheeses, pies and everything you'd expect to see for sale at an orchard. They also have an Italian bakery with pastries, cookies and cakes. There's a deli with sandwiches made fresh. They also have soups, salads and pizza. There's also a small coffee shop, Red Barn Coffee Café, with hot and iced coffees, teas, hot cider, hot chocolate and lattes. Eat Up NE recommends their chocolate raspberry hot coffee.

For the summer, customers can enjoy ice cream from their outdoor ice cream window. Choose from more than 30 flavors from Attleboro's Bliss Dairy. Eat Up NE recommends their wild blueberry crumble. They also sell pints/gallons of ice cream.  No trip to an orchard is complete without a cider donut. You can see them made fresh Fridays-Sundays. We bought a half dozen and they were still warm and crisp, covered with cinnamon. Bolton Orchards also sells bottles of their cold apple cider. You can try some for just 5 cents a cup!

IT'S APPLE SEASON!

The seasons here in New England always make it easy to include a lot of fruit in your diet. Of course, right now it's time for picking apples. I was at The Big Apple in Wrentham, MA last weekend where I picked a bushel of several different varieties. I've been going here since I was a kid, but this was the first time I ventured out to pick apples myself. They have acres and acres of land. The place was packed on the weekend, so go on a weekday if you can. Don't forget to bring home some of their donuts and a caramel apple!

FRESH PRODUCE AT THE HAYMARKET SQUARE FARMER'S MARKET

If you've ever been near Faneuil Hall on a Saturday, chances are you've seen this gigantic farmer's market. Bostonians have shopped here for two centuries. You'll find every kind of fruit and vegetable here and the prices couldn't be any lower. How about two pints of blueberries for $1? Maybe pineapples that are 2 for $1? Of course, like anywhere else, you'll want to thoroughly inspect your produce before buying it. I got 4 ears for corn for $1 over the weekend and they were as fresh as can be. The farmer's market happens every Friday and Saturday from dawn to around 6 pm.

It's blueberry season - that wonderful time of year when blueberries are only $1.99/pint at grocery stores and you can pick your own at so many places across New England. This weekend, I was at Rose's Berry Farm in South Glastonbury, Connecticut filling up a huge bag of berries. I've been getting blueberries at Rose's every summer for the past decade. Blueberries are in their prime right now and there really is nothing better than some FRESH blueberries.

IT'S STRAWBERRY SEASON AT DRAGHI'S

Summer is one of the best times of the year for fresh fruits and veggies. One of my favorite places to get the freshest produce around is at Draghi's in South Glastonbury, Connecticut. It's strawberry season and when you step inside, you'll smell their farm fresh berries. They have countless cartons and crates full of the summer fruit. You can even pick up a bag of biscuits at Draghi's to make strawberry shortcake. Draghi's is also one of my favorite places to buy corn on the cob. They are just starting to get it in for the season. Besides fruits & veggies, you'll also find a huge showcase of every kind of pie imaginable at Draghi's. They also have a greenhouse with annuals and veggies that are on sale right now for the end of the season.

New England's farms just come to life in the fall. From deep orange pumpkins and gourds of all shapes and sizes to crunchy apples and hot cider, nothing beats a trip to the orchard in the fall.

 One of my favorite farms in New England is The Big Apple in Wrentham, Massachusetts. I've been going there every fall since I was a child. All of these years later, the place hasn't changed much and that's a good thing! You can still get a free apple just for visiting. You can still watch a train circle around the area where the apples are cleaned. Best of all, you can still buy all of their the fall foods that you wait patiently all year for.

 If you go to The Big Apple, you MUST try their donuts. They are perfect and light. You could eat a half dozen in one sitting. If you show up at the right time, you can even see them make the donuts. Right now, they are also selling candy and caramel apples. Both are so delicious. You can also buy bags of several varieties of apples that are grown on their acres of land. Also for sale: several kinds of pies, fudge, candy, popcorn, cider (made from their own apples), cheeses, veggies, pickles and so much more! In recent years, The Big Apple also started to sell ice cream. There are many flavors to choose from including my seasonal favorite, pumpkin.

Now is also the perfect time to visit for all of your fall decorating needs. They have pumpkins and gourds of all sizes. Their pumpkin house is a sight! They also sell mums and Indian corn. Of yeah, be sure to be on the lookout for the witch on Halloween weekend!

IT'S PEAK BLUEBERRY TIME AT ROSE'S BERRY FARM IN GLASTONBURY, CT

There's nothing like getting out in the hot summer sun to pick your own blueberries. Rose's Berry Farm in South Glastonbury, Connecticut is the perfect place to do it. They have acres and acres of blueberry and raspberry bushes with fruit that's ripe for picking. This place is so big that you have to hop a ride on a truck out to the field. Then, it's time for picking! They give everyone a huge bucket, which holds several pounds of blueberries. You'll be assigned a couple of bushes and you can pick as much as you want. I've been going to Rose's Berry Farm for years and I can tell you that this year's crop is by far the best blueberry crop yet. If you've never picked blueberries, give it a try. You'll find they taste way better than any blueberries that have been sitting at your local supermarket.

 Visit Rose's Berry Farm each season for different crops to pick. In the fall, pick your own apples and pumpkins. When Christmas comes around, cut your own Christmas tree. Rose's is also known for its Breakfast-With-A-View. Every Sunday from June through October, you can eat outside on their patio which has a beautiful view of their lake and property. Choose from Belgian waffles, pancakes or French Toast - all of it topped off whatever fruit is in season.
