Galliford's Restaurant & Tavern
Mendon, MA

There's nothing finer than a hearty Sunday brunch, but would you think you'd find one of the best around at a ZOO? Southwick's Zoo in Mendon, Massachusetts is home to Galliford's Restaurant & Tavern. They are open for lunch and dinner most days, but on Sundays, Galliford's puts together a brunch buffet that could compete with any Sunday brunch in Boston.

Their Sunday Brunch With Style features an array of mouth-watering foods on an all-you-can-eat buffet. Breakfast dishes include crème brulee French toast, eggs benedict, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, bagels, pastries, fruit salad and much more. The warm sticky buns with frosting are a MUST to try, along with their waffle station that's complete with berry compote and homemade whipped cream. Drinks like coffee, milk and juices are included, with an upcharge for alcoholic beverages like a Bloody Mary or mimosas.

Save room for their lunch buffet options. When we visited there was cod, beans, a couple of salads, and manicotti. If you possibly have room left after all of that, there's a table full of desserts. There were a couple types of cheesecakes, cupcakes, a smores pudding, tarts and cookies. It was the perfect way to end a delicious sweet and savory meal.

Be sure to make a reservation because the Sunday brunch is quite popular. Also, if you sit in the back of the restaurant, you can watch some of the zoo's animals in their habitats as you dine.

The Dedham location is its sixth restaurant in Massachusetts and ninth in all of New England.

SUNDAY BRUNCH AT EARLS

Tuesday, November 19, 2019
Breakfast Burger
Earls in Somerville, Massachusetts offers a fine brunch on the weekend. Eat Up New England stopped by early Sunday afternoon. The place was packed and the mimosas were flying out of the bar. I highly recommend their breakfast burger. It's topped with cheddar, tomatoes, onion, smoked bacon and a fried egg, all on a soft brioche bun. The big burger also comes with a hearty helping of crispy potatoes. Other brunch options include chicken & waffles, blueberry waffles & cream, steak & eggs and a chorizo & mushroom hash. Diners can also order off of Earls full menu during brunch hours, which go until 3pm.

Central Public House is like a taste of Boston in the town of Hopkinton, Massachusetts. It's gorgeous bar and live plant displays on the wall give it that city feel, along with their executive chef who's cooked at many fine Boston restaurants.Central Public House has been serving lunch and dinner for a few months, but just started brunch on the weekend.

I started off my meal with a cafe mocha, which was a chocolatey and caffeine-filled delight. Coffee, cappuccino and espresso are other pick-me-ups on the menu. In the mood for a boozy brunch beverage? Central Public House also serves classics like the Mimosa, Bloody Mary and Tequila Sunrise.

Brunch meals include a breakfast pizza, huevos rancheros, bananas foster French toast, steak & eggs, a burger, turkey club and Caesar salad.  I really enjoyed the breakfast pizza. It's topped with bacon, sausage, cheese, spinach and an egg.

Great brunch. Cozy atmosphere. Eat Up New England looks forward to returning to the Central Public House for lunch and dinner.

BRUNCH WITH A FREE BLOODY MARY OR MIMOSA AT THE LOCAL

Saturday, March 10, 2018
Chicken and waffles with sausage gravy
All brunch main courses come with a Bloody Mary or Mimosa
The Local
Wayland, Massachusetts
www.liveeatlocal.com

I've always been a fan of The Local's West Newton, Massachusetts location for dinner. They have a hip, nighttime vibe with delicious flatbreads, burgers, salads and mac & cheese dishes. Today, I was excited to try their Wayland restaurant for brunch.

All of their main courses cost $16 and come with a complimentary mimosa or Bloody Mary. I loved their refreshing Bloody Mary, which had just enough spice. Choose from their Brunch Burger, avocado toast, pancakes, smoked salmon lox, classic eggs benny, short rib skillet hash OR be like Eat Up New England and indulge in their fried chicken & waffle. The boneless chicken and waffle is topped with a SAUSAGE GRAVY, making this one filling and fantastic meal. The gravy is sooo good.

There are also smaller portions like a cheese omelet, pancakes, scrambled eggs and a Belgian waffle. They come with apple slices or fried potatoes BUT do NOT come with the free alcoholic beverage.

Brunch is served at all of The Local's locations on Saturdays and Sundays.

SUNDAY BRUNCH AT BULFINCHS IN SUDBURY, MA

Sunday, January 28, 2018
Everyone gets a plate of pastries to kick of Sunday brunch.
Farmer's Omelet
Huevos Rancheros
Bullfinchs serves brunch on Sundays only and dinner nightly.
BULLFINCHS
Sudbury, Massachusetts
www.bullfinchs.com

Sunday brunch at Bulfinchs in Sudbury, Massachusetts is like dining in the the city, without the long ride and the meaty check. Throw in their LIVE jazz band and you have the recipe for the perfect Sunday morning.

Brunch at Bullfinchs begins with a complimentary plate of pastries. There are scones, a muffin, coffee cake and a croissant. It's served with just enough butter and strawberry jam. For a moment, it felt like we were in France!  Enjoy a cocktail, coffee or some juice as you want for the main course.

There are many filling favorites for brunch, meals like sausage & potato waffles, smoked salmon & bagel and a belgian waffle. I enjoyed their "Farmer's Omelet," with cheddar, mushrooms, ham, tomatoes and onions. The cheese was oozing out of the side, just the way I like it. If you're in the mode for lunch, try their mussels, pecan chicken, salads (apple, Caesar or beet) or pizza.

Brunch is served every Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It gets busy, so Eat Up New England recommends reservations.

BRUNCH AT GASLIGHT IN BOSTON

Saturday, August 26, 2017
Julia Child's raspberry shortbread
Omelette Lyonaisse
Entrance and outdoor patio
Gaslight
www.gaslight560.com

Summer is winding down, but at restaurants like Gaslight in Boston's South End, customers can still find plenty of sunshine and cool breezes. Eat Up New England was lucky enough to enjoy Saturday brunch on their outdoor patio. The spacious stone patio is dotted with tables and umbrellas. There are string lights above. Geraniums and petunias provide added summer ambiance. It is the perfect setting for the perfect French-inspired meal.

Gaslight's prix fixe brunch is the best deal in town at just $11.95 per person. The meal starts off with TWO drinks. Choose your juice: orange or grapefruit. Choose your caffeine: coffee or tea. Then, my favorite, Julia Child's spiced shortbread with raspberry jam. It's a fantastic sweet treat before the main course arrives. There are usually four options, including omelets, scrambled eggs and vanilla French toast. The French toast is FANTASTIC, but this visit I ordered the Omelette Lyonaisse, which is filled with caramelized onions, gruyere cheese and potatoes.

Gaslight serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays all year. Eat Up New England highly recommends getting a meal or two in on that patio before the cold weather moves in.

CHICKEN AND WAFFLES, $1 OYSTERS AT BACK BAY SOCIAL CLUB

Saturday, July 23, 2016
Back Bay Social Club's weekend brunch is where it's at! They serve everyone's favorite boozy beverages - Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's. Start of your meal with their famous $1 oysters. We sucked down a tray of 10 of them this afternoon. They are soooo good.

Check out the chicken and waffles. This crispy white meat was drizzling with just enough of their house BBQ maple syrup. Amazing. Other brunch options at BBSC include a lobster roll, build your own omelet, Belgian blueberry waffle, lobster benedict along with several salads, burgers and pizzas.

Brunch is served from 11am to 3pm Saturdays and Sunday. You can also get those $1 oysters during the week, Mondays thru Fridays from 4pm to 6pm.

BRUNCH AT DUO IN BRATTLEBORO, VERMONT

Sunday, April 24, 2016
For years, Duo has been a hot spot in Denver, Colorado. Now, its owners have opened a second restaurant on Main Street in Brattleboro, Vermont. Duo serves brunch on weekends only and I was lucky enough to sample their menu recently.

We started our meal with a homemade cinnamon donut with apples. Amazing. This was one of their specials, so it may or may not be available if you visit. I ordered their special cauliflower and cheese omelet for my main course. It was light and tasty. The potatoes served with it easily filled me up. Also on their brunch menu is French toast, a Vermont bacon scramble, egg sandwich, buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, grilled cheese & soup and a cider glazed pork benedict.

Duo is open for dinner every night. Entrees include meatloaf, tagliatelle, salmon, fried chicken and a pork chop. They also have several salads and apps like meatballs, mussels and warm beets. Duo also has a bar packed with red and white wines and champagne by the glass and by the bottle. They also offer several signature cocktails and Vermont beers like Barista Porter from Burlington Beer Company and Barnyard Blend from Whetstone Cider Works.

A RELAXED, LOCAL VIBE AT THE FARMSTEAD TABLE IN NEWTON

Tuesday, November 03, 2015
Eat Up New England just discovered a wonderful place for brunch in Newton, Massachusetts called the Farmstead Table. This cozy restaurant specializes in fresh and local foods. Their menu is always changing depending on the season.

Farmstead offers lunch and dinner daily with brunch on Sundays. Right now, brunch meals include blintzes, quiche, French toast, a beef burger, huevos rancheros and a grilled chicken salad. I ordered the breakfast tacos - two soft open-faced tacos with chorizo, avocado and cheese. They are served with some healthy mixed greens. Drinks include French press coffee, juices, a bunch of teas and several cocktails. I enjoyed their organic peppermint tea.

Farmstead's lunch and dinner menu look very tempting. Right now, there's grilled swordfish on the menu, one of my favorites!

Farmstead Table is located in bust Newton Centre. PS, If you're not sure what to do this Thanksgiving, Farmstead will take the pressure off and make a Thanksgiving meal with all of the fixins for you.

BRUNCH AT GLOBE IN BOSTON

Sunday, October 05, 2014
It's October. How lucky are we that it's still warm enough to eat outside? We did just that this afternoon at Globe Bar & Cafe in Boston's Copley Square.

Globe offers brunch on the weekend. My favorite thing about it are the cheap drinks. Mimosas and bellinis are just $5, so you know we ordered some. The menu is jam packed with some of my favorite comfort food dishes like chicken pot and mac & cheese. Plus, their french fries of choice are STEAK FRIES. The best!

Apps include hamburger or veggie sliders, New England Clam chowder, nachos, mozzarella sticks and sweet potato fries. Globe has a bunch of salads including caprese, spinach, Caesar and a chopped salad with BBQ grilled chicken. The salads tempted me, but I ordered the turkey sandwich. It's stuffed with cheddar cheese, bacon, apples and tomatoes. You can have it with a side salad or steak fries. It's delicious. Other sandwiches include a steak tip sandwich, turkey burger and club sandwich.

Globe has a full bar with tons of beers, wine and cocktails. You'll find that inside. I really enjoyed the food here and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city

Sunday, September 21, 2014
It's been a little while since I've been out for Sunday brunch, so I was happy to go to the Rox Diner in Newton, Massachusetts this morning to start the day off right. I enjoyed this mushroom, Swiss and asparagus omelet with a couple of cups of coffee. You can't go wrong at Rox, just be warned you may have a wait because this place is popular especially for Sunday brunch.

(Closed) SUNDAY BRUNCH AT BONEFISH GRILL

Saturday, March 22, 2014
California omelet with toast and potatoes au gratin
Bonefish Grill is known for their delicious seafood, but did you know they also serve a delicious Sunday Brunch? I recently enjoyed their brunch at their Newington, Connecticut location. They have an extensive menu which, of course, features the Sunday brunch staples mimosas and Bloody Mary's. I enjoyed the California omelet with applewood bacon, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and tomatoes. It came with toast and a wickedly cheesy potatoes au gratin. There are several other omelets including the Oscar with crab, asparagus and smoked mozzarella and an egg white & asparagus omelet. They also serve up several eggs benedicts, creme brulee French toast, a kobe beef and egg burger and whole grain oatmeal. It was a really good brunch and I look forward to visiting again the next time I'm in Connecticut.

UPDATE: This location of the Bonefish Grill is now CLOSED.

BRUNCH AT THE WALNUT GRILLE

Sunday, February 02, 2014
"Greek feast" omelet for only $8!
The Walnut Grille in Newton, Massachusetts is quickly becoming a hot spot for vegetarian and vegan food. I do eat meat, but there are plenty of tasty options for everyone on their menu. I went for lunch today and was excited to see they offer an extensive brunch menu on the weekends. There are several omelets (all of them are gluten free) on the menu, along with favorites like pancakes, vegan French toast and a vegan Belgian waffle. There are also several soups and salads on the menu, including a traditional Caesar salad to the Highlands Gem with beets, baby greens, Vermont goat cheese and toasted pine nuts. I had the "Greek feast" omelet with spinach, red peppers, tomatoes, olives and feta cheese. It was served with home fries and toast. A delicious and filling meal.

The Walnut Grille is also open for lunch and dinner. I've been a couple of times before and can recommend their vegetarian lasagna. Other meals include a southwest burrito, eggplant rolatini, nutty tofu, veggie/vegan burgers, falafel wrap and a few pizzas. Just about everything on their menu can be made vegan. Check out the Walnut Grille for a healthy,  hearty and tasty meal!

EXPERIENCE SUNDAY BRUNCH AT SKY IN NORWOOD, MA

Thursday, October 10, 2013
The chocolate fountain is flowing Sundays at Sky in Norwood, Massachusetts. Their popular Sunday brunch is back and just as popular than ever. It's buffet style and there are endless options. For breakfast, they'll make you an omelet with just about anything you want stuffed inside. You can also watch as chefs prepare waffles and pancakes for you. Make your way down the breakfast buffet and fill your plate with sausage, scrambled eggs, two kinds of crispy bacon, home fries, eggs benedict and their amazing cinnamon raisin French toast. You can even toast yourself a bagel or grab a home-made pastry. I went for breakfast first and saved room for round two: lunch!

Stop by the chef's carving station for your main course. They had stuffed pork, roast and ham when I was there. Much like their breakfast buffet, their lunch selection often rotates. They have New England scrod, two kinds of mac & cheese, potatoes, seasonal veggies and some really good chicken! They also have many salads to choose from, a huge cheese plate, mozzarella and olives with feta.

Save room for dessert! This is the highlight of the meal. Sky has a huge chocolate fountain with fruits and brownies for dipping. The dessert table also has all kinds of chocolatey treats, pastries, cakes and pies. Sky even has a full table of gluten-free desserts.

BRUNCH IS THE BUZZ AT THE ROX DINER

Tuesday, April 09, 2013
Banana and cream cheese stuffed French toast. Apple, cinnamon and granola pancakes. Savory and sinful dishes like these have customers lining up outside of the door for brunch at the Rox Diner in Newtonville, MA. And you'd better believe the food is worth the wait!

You can start your meal off with some fresh-squeezed orange juice. They have a machine that they stuff full of oranges to squeeze right on the spot. Try some. It's good stuff. There are endless choices for breakfast, which makes it difficult to settle on just one. If you're extra hungry, try the "Big Rig." It comes with two eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes and home fries. I tried the "Boston Scrambler" for the first time recently and loved it. It's scrambled eggs mixed with ham and topped over with melted Swiss cheese. If that wasn't enough, it comes with home fries and toast.  Rox Diner also offers a bunch of tasty omelets, breakfast sandwiches and several varieties of French toast and pancakes.

The Rox Diner is also open for lunch and dinner. They serve a fantastic grilled cheese. More on that in an upcoming post...
