MOUTH-WATERING SMASH BURGERS AT BIG DADDY'S BITES

Sunday, June 29, 2025

Big Daddy's Bites

Big Mac-Daddy
In the burger world, nothing compares to a smash burger, which is why people are lining up at Big Daddy's Bites. This food truck specializes in smash burgers. They are made to order and mighty tasty.

Eat up New England recently stopped by when they were parked in Uxbridge. I ordered the Big Mac-Daddy and loved every bite. This stomach-busting burger is made of two patties, three buns, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, pickles and a special sauce. It also comes with fries and I would highly recommend their Cajun fries. There are a bunch other mouth-watering burgers to try like their Spicy Hawaiian with a pineapple ring, BBQ sauce and jalapenos or do some California dreamin' with their Cali Burger which comes with bacon and guacamole.

Check out Big Daddy's Bites' Facebook and Instagram pages for where they will be next.

Jaybird Patty Melt

Place your order at the counter and wait for your number to be called.

Harbor Burger Shack in Kittery, Maine

Wicked good cheesy fries!
Harbor Burger Shack

Step back in time to an old school burger bar in Kittery, Maine. Harbor Burger Shack is a family-friendly 50's inspired restaurant that offers a taste of American fare done right. There are a bunch of burgers to choose from, like the All Aboard The Blue, which is topped with crumbled blue cheese, bacon and onion. I loved the Jaybird Patty Melt, with grilled mushrooms, onion and Swiss cheese. The fries are crinkle fries and I would go all in with an order of the cheesy fries. There are also chili cheese fries, fried pickle chips and sweet potato tots.

No burger shack menu would be complete without a hot dog. There are a few options to choose from including a cheesy chili dog and a corn dog. Chicken lovers aren't left out. There's a crispy chicken sandwich, spicy chicken sandwich and a grilled chicken sandwich, along with chicken tots.

Wash it all down with one of their milkshakes. There are classic flavors like vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. Turn things up a notch with an over the top shake like their Chocolate Whoopie Pie and Shake the Cereal shakes.

Harbor Shake Shack is located in the Kittery Premium Outlets. So, the next time you shop, be sure to drop into this amazing burger bar for some classic American favorites.

Sunday, July 14, 2019
Smuttynose is located in Hampton, NH.

Smuttynose Brewing Company
Hampton, New Hampshire
www.smuttynose.com

Smuttynose Brewery has been cranking out craft beer since 1994. You can sample all of it and bring some home at their campus in Hampton, New Hampshire.

Visitors can tour the brewery for free. There's also beer tasting inside of the brewery where you can try all of the classic and latest Smuttynose brews. Stop by their gift shop for Smuttynose beers and swag to bring home. Have some fun playing their pinball machines or go for a game of cornhole (in season).

Don't leave without enjoying a meal at their restaurant. Pull up a chair and listen to live music at their outdoor patio or dine indoors near their bar, which, of course, pours nothing but Smuttynose. Right now, they are brewing a Raspberry Lime Rickey sour beer which is so refreshing.

The food is fantastic. There are salads, burgers and pastas. I loved their Blue Cheese Smash burger, which consists of two patties. The cheese, bacon and onions are all smashed together into the burgers. Appetizers include fried pickles, onion rings, nachos, and a pub pretzel. Want a free meal? Bring your appetite and try "Da S'muttonator." It comes with 4 burgers, 8 slices of bacon, 4 slices of cheese, 4 ounces of pulled pork, onion rings, a fried egg and a pound of french fries. Eat it all in 30 minutes and it's free, plus you'll get a T-shirt and your picture on their wall of fame.

SIZZLIN' SUMMER SPOTS: THE KNACK

Monday, July 01, 2019
Lobster roll
Onion rings
The Knack in Orleans, Massachusetts
The Knack
Orleans, Massachusetts
theknackcapecod.com

The owners of The Knack say their goal is to perfect the Cape Cod roadside stand. Mission accomplished! They grew up on the Cape eating the lobster, the seafood and the burgers, so they know what they are doing.

The Knack is always hopping. In true Cape Cod fashion, customers order from one of their windows and eat outside. Start your meal with a shake, soda or a can of one of their local beers.  Burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches fill their menu. The burgers look amazing, but this time I wanted to sink my teeth into some Cape Cod lobster. The lobster was as fresh as can be. I gobbled it up with some of their onion rings, which are light and crispy. They also offer veggie tacos for vegetarians, along with fish and whole belly clam sandwiches.

Save room for dessert! There's soft serve ice cream and homemade ice cream sandwiches. The Knack donates 10% of their profits on sweets to charity everyday.

BOOZY MILKSHAKES & BIG BURGERS AT BRGR BAR

Tuesday, January 16, 2018
"The BRGR"
Thin Mint Adult Milkshake
BRGR Bar in Portsmouth, NH
The BRGR Bar
Portsmouth, New Hampshire
www.brgr-bar.com

The BRGR Bar in Portsmouth, New Hampshire specializes in burgers that are so BIG, you may need to cut them in half with a knife. This is a family restaurant, but it also has a full bar that makes many adult milkshakes. I loved the thin mint milkshake with brownie bits, rum and peppermint schnapps. Other boozy milkshakes include an apple pie ala mode, "The Oreo Lift" and special Christmas milkshakes around the holidays.

Knowing that the burgers are huge, we skipped on the appetizers like buffalo brussel sprouts and mac, cheese fritters and poutine. I ordered "The BRGR," TWO patties with American cheese, crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion and a special sauce. Fantastic! It came with a pile of fries, which you can substitute out for a salad or tater tots. Also on their menu, a burger called "The Mac Daddy," which is topped with mac & cheese. Or try one of their  tuna, turkey or duck burgers. Vegetarians have not been forgotten about. There's a "Just Beet It" burger and an "Earth Burger" made of quinoa.

The BRGR Bar has another location in Portland, Maine with another restaurant opening soon in Manchester, New Hampshire.

EAT UP NEW ENGLAND FINALLY TRIES SONIC

Tuesday, August 08, 2017
The many options at Sonic's drive-thru.
#4 Combo Meal
Sonic in Peabody, Mass

Sonic
www.sonicdrivein.com
Locations: Stoughton, Somerset and Smithfield, RI

Sonic has been slowly expanding in New England for a few years. Eat Up New England has always wanted to try out this national chain and FINALLY got to. I went though the drive-thru of their Peabody, Massachusetts location. The lunch line went fast on a quiet summer Monday. Customers can also eat inside or outside in their cars, where carhops will deliver the fast food on roller skates.

I ordered the #4 combo meal: a Bacon Cheeseburger Toaster with tots and a small lemonade. The burger was sinfully good, stuffed with lettuce, BBQ sauce, a large onion ring, cheese, bacon, and pickles. The tots were crispy on the outside, yet soft and flavorful on the inside.

So, besides the tots, what puts Sonic on the map? They have a massive selection of drinks.  There are several frozen lemonades and limeades. They have slushes in every flavor imaginable. Sonic also has candy slushes, like a Green Apple Jolly Rancher with Hard Candy. Many of these drinks are half off during happy hour. They also have a bunch for hot dogs on their menu like their Chili Cheese Coney, Chicago Dog and Cheesy Bacon Pretzel Dog. Yes, you can even get a corn dog. For dessert, there are milkshakes, waffle ice cream cones and a bunch of candy bar concretes.

BEER BREWED IN HOUSE AND EXCELLENT BAR FOOD AT TRINITY BREWHOUSE IN PROVIDENCE

Saturday, February 04, 2017
Trinity Brewhouse is a legendary brew pub restaurant in the heart of Providence, Rhode Island. Since 1995, their brewmasters have been making beer in house and they have won countless awards to back up just how fresh and how good their beer is.

The beers on top change every night, but last night I was excited to try their Black Hops. This double black IPA is an interesting concoction that looks like a stout. It's also 8.8% alcohol and is just $6 a pint. Other beers include a Russian Imperial Stout called Darkness and their signature Kolsch beer, with a pale golden color and light body. Trinity also sells big old growlers of beer to take home.

Trinity offers a traditional bar food menu to go along with their beers. Start off with Trinity nachos, chips & salsa, chili or chicken wings. For dinner, I would highly recommend one of their burgers. Choose from 6 or 10 ounce and top it with whatever you want. I enjoyed a 10 ounce with Vermont cheddar cheese, bacon and stout caramelized onions. It was perfectly cooked and served with a pile of their homemade fries. Other entrees include a New England clam roast, steak tips, fish & chips, lobster mac & cheese, pulled pork BBQ, jerk chicken and 12-inch rustic pizzas. Trinity even has a vegan ravioli for our vegan/vegetarian friends.

Trinity Brewhouse was an excellent dining experience from start to finish. Check them out online and social media for a look at what beers they have on tap before you visit.

EAT UP IN NYC: SCHNIPPERS

Saturday, December 17, 2016
Walking around New York City at Christmastime can make you hungry. At the end of a busy day, we wound up at Schnippers for a hearty meal. Schnippers has several locations in the city, but this one it's impossible to miss. It's on the ground level of the New York Times headquarters.

Schnippers reminds me on a modern take on a 50's diner. They have burgers, mac and cheese, salads, tons of sandwiches and milkshakes. For Christmas, they are offering a candy cane milkshake. It's chuck full of candy cane pieces and topped with red, green and white sprinkles and whipped cream. For dinner, I LOVED their Classic Burger, topped with cheese, applewood bacon, caramelized onions, arugula and Schnipper sauce.

BURGERS AND FRIES AT HONEYPIE IN VERMONT

Tuesday, November 01, 2016

Honeypie is a brand new family restaurant that's attracting so many customers in the quiet town of Jamaica, Vermont. The first thing that strikes you about this place is that it used to be a gas station. Inside, they've gutted it out and made it look quite modern. There's plenty of room for their spacious kitchen and lots of space for customers to spread out in the dining room. Outside, the old gas station awning still stands. Instead of pumps, there are tables for people to eat during the warmer months.

Honeypie offers a simple menu with hearty, American favorites. There are burgers, sausages and sandwiches. I ate up their single burger which comes with lettuce, tomato, pickled red onions, Cabot cheese and a special sauce. For a buck, I added some crisp bacon. It was delicious. Our table of three shared a basket of their shoestring french fries. Honeypie also has several sausages on their menu which are made of, as they say, " locally raised happy and healthy animals." Their lobster roll is intriguing. It's made from Maine lobster meat. I've gotta try their grilled cheese, which, of course, is made with Cabot cheddar.

Honeypie has its liquor license which means they have several local beers on tap, wine and craft cider. I'm not a huge cider fan, but the Shacksbury cider called out to me the other night. It was quite good and a nice complement to my burger and fries. Honeypie also has milkshakes: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, Oreo, salted caramel and banana peanut butter.

What a nice place. It's the perfect stop for anyone heading to or coming from a day of skiing this winter. See you soon!

MAD RIVER BARN IN WAITSFIELD, VERMONT

Wednesday, March 09, 2016
There's still snow on the ground in Waitsfield, Vermont, which makes the Mad River Barn the perfect place to warm up with friends and comfort food.

Eat Up New England stopped by for dinner last weekend. The place was jumping on Saturday night. Upstairs, you'll find a young crowd enjoying drinks and playing games like foosball. Downstairs, there's a modern dining room, with long tables to accommodate families and large groups of friends.

I was surprised to see aranchini as one of their apps, so we ordered it. They were very good (and vegetarian BTW). Other apps include warm pretzel sticks, crab hush puppies, meatballs and a Vermont cheese plate. The Mad River Barn also has a great selection of local beers, and yes, they do serve Heady Topper!

For dinner, there are several salads and burgers to choose form. I built my own burger with BBQ sauce and cheddar cheese. It was served with their delicious homemade French fries. Other dinners include Vermont maple chicken, salmon, a grilled cheese with pickled jalapenos and roasted lamb.

PEANUT BUTTER ON A BURGER

Friday, December 25, 2015
Just about anything can be used to top a burger these days, even peanut butter! This is "Tim's Awesome Burger" from Eat Up New England Favorite Whetstone Station in Brattleboro, Vermont. Believe it or not, the peanut butter is the perfect complement to this burger, which is also topped with Vermont cheddar cheese and crisp bacon. Just don't add any ketchup or mustard to it. Eat Up NE recommends their Station Fries with Parmesan and chive oil as the perfect side to this peanut buttery burger.

BURGERS, WAFFLE FRIES & SHAKES AT GRIDDLER'S IN BOSTON

Monday, December 21, 2015
Eat Up New England is always up for a good burger. I recently checked out the Griddler's on Boston Common for lunch. The first thing that caught my eye was the ambiance. I loved the logo and colorful decor inside the restaurant.

The menu is packed with tasty fast food favorites. There are burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips and grilled cheese. They also have a veggie burger and an egg sandwich on the menu. Get your sandwich anyway you want it with all kinds of add-ons like jalapenos, caramelized onions, roasted peppers and sauteed mushrooms. The sides are rockin' with waffle fries, beef chili, fried pickles (Grillo's pickles!), tots and onion strings to choose from. For dessert, there are several flavors of ice cream to choose from, shakes, several ice cream sandwiches and even chocolate-covered bacon!

Right now, Griddler's has two Boston locations: Boston Common and Beacon Hill.

LOBSTER BURGER NOW AT SHAKE SHACK!

Tuesday, August 18, 2015
Eat Up New England's lobster tour continues at an unlikely place: Shake Shack. The burger joint is now serving this Surf N' Shack burger at all of its New England locations. It's topped with lobster. I ordered one at their Dedham, Massachusetts location today. It's delicious. Of course, Shake Shack could top their burgers with just about anything and it would still be good. These special burgers are $8.99 and will be available through September 20.

VISITING THE NEW SHAKE SHACK IN DEDHAM, MA

Monday, March 02, 2015
Step inside Shake Shack's third restaurant in Massachusetts. It opened on Sunday, March 1 in Dedham in Legacy Place. Shake Shack hired about 35 new workers for this restaurant. Yesterday, I enjoyed a bacon cheeseburger, some fries and a lemonade. Delicious.

The new Shake Shack is just a few steps away from B Good in Legacy Place and it will be interesting to see if both will survive. By the way, Shake Shack is coming to Boston today, opening its first restaurant in the city in the Back Bay.

COLD BEER AND PERFECT APPS AT BEER WORKS IN FRAMINGHAM

Thursday, February 05, 2015
After shoveling snow in all of these snow storms, I've been dying for an nice cold beer. I finally got one at Framingham Beer Works. This hot spot is one of the newer Boston Beer Works locations and is always very busy. They brew their own beer in house and you can even take a six pack home! I started my meal off with one of their seasonal brews, "Lovefest," a chocolate strawberry stout. It's very good! You can find it along with several other Valentine's Day inspired drinks and dishes on their February menu. They have an extensive beer menu, along with several cocktails.

Beer Works menu is jam packed with all of your favorite bar foods. Their nachos are soooo good, a vegetarian delight smothered in cheese, olives, tomatoes and jalapenos. (They'll top them with chili or chicken for you, too.) They have a ton of apps including onion rings, scallops, fried pickle spears, wings and cheeseburger sliders. They also have a "Bluebeery Shark" app of grilled Mako shark drizzled with a blueberry sauce.

For dinner, I ordered the Charlestown Burger, a thick burger topped with cheddar and applewood bacon. Very filling and very good! You can choose from a bunch of different French fries like sour cream & chive, cheese, chili and gravy. I went for the steak fries, which were each half of a potato! Other dinner options include chicken sandwiches, shrimp 'n ham mac 'n cheese, salmon, salads, steak tips and rips. Many of their entrees are also available vegetarian.

If you save room for dessert, I'd recommend their blueberry cheesecake. They also have a "Big Dig" Brownie Sundae, apple blueberry crumble and several ice creams.

Framingham Beer Works is always pretty crowded at night, especially on weekends. Lunch is much quieter and a good chance to sample their delicious menu and beers.
