ON THE ROAD: LADY & SON'S IN SAVANNAH, GEORGIA

Southern food is as good as it gets. It's filling, delicious, packed with calories and made with love. I was recently in Savannah, Georgia where I checked out Paula Deen's restaurant, The Lady & Sons.

There are three floors to accommodate all of the tourists who stop by. Each floor has a buffet packed with all of the fixins, along with a cook who makes cornbread and cheddar biscuits. Those come with every meal and are soooo good! I was excited to see pumpkin beer on the menu, so I ordered a tall glass to wash down the bread 'n biscuits. Apps include southern favorites like fried green tomatoes and fried okra. We loved the tomatoes.

Entrees include chicken pot pie, salmon, shrimp 'n grits, crab cakes, New York Strimp and choice of fresh seafood. I enjoyed the chicken pot pie, which was a work of art. Check out the latticework on that crust! Desserts include pie pie and key lime pie. Eat Up NE was too stuffed to indulge.

If you're ever in Savannah, make reservations. The Lady & Sons gets busy for lunch and dinner. While you're waiting, you can always check out Paula Deen's store. It sells everything from Paula's cookbooks and candles to flavored chap sticks and shirts.
