GIGANTIC SALADS AT GREEN GODDESS CAFE IN STOWE, VT

Saturday, May 09, 2015
Stowe, Vermont is known for its breath-taking mountain views, skiing, fresh air and its fantastic local restaurants. So much of the food that you'll find in Stowe (and really much of Vermont) is local and farm to table. The Green Goddess Cafe is one place you'll find these healthy ingredients.

This cafe has a huge menu for breakfast and lunch. You'll find homemade muffins, pastries, pancakes, eggs and toast, scrambles and breakfast sandwiches among their breakfast offerings. There's also a full menu of raw juices and smoothies.

We went for lunch, so we were able to order one of their huge salad, which the Green Goddess Cafe is known for. All of their salads are served in large wooden bowls. There's plenty to share. You can choose from one of their salads off the menu, or make you're own. You can actually fill out of sheet with whatever ingredients you want! We also ordered a grilled cheese with cheddar, avocado, goat cheese and spinach. The buttery bread was the perfect compliment to this perfect sandwich. There are a bunch of other sandwiches on their menu, along with soups, wraps and paninis.

I had one of the best meals in Stowe at Green Goddess Cafe, so be sure to check them out!

LOBSTER TOUR 2015: SOLAS IN BOSTON

Thursday, May 07, 2015
On Tuesday, it was 80 degrees out in Boston. It was the perfect time to continue Eat Up New England's Lobster Tour 2015! I stopped at Solas in the Back Bay for my next lobster roll.

This Irish pub has all of the traditional Irish dishes, along with some tasty bar food. Apps include nachos, their amazing house made potato chips with dipping sauce (TRY THESE!), potato & cheese dumplings, sliders, quesadillas and egg rolls. There's a Guinness onion soup on the menu, but I went for a pint of my favorite beer instead. The main menu includes a bunch of burgers, a homemade veggie burgers, chicken pot pie, mac-n-cheese, shepherd's pie and beef stew.

The hot summery weather was the perfect excuse to try their lobster roll. A large portion of cold lobster salad was served on top of some lettuce and a buttery roll. It's served with a huge portion of homemade fries. There were enough fries for two people. Who knew you could find such a delicious lobster roll at an Irish pub?!

HUGE ICE CREAM SANDWICHES FROM THE COOKIE MONSTAH FOOD TRUCK

Tuesday, May 05, 2015
I've spotted the Cookie Monstah food truck all over Boston and today, I finally got to try one of their ice cream sandwiches. You can pick whatever kind of cookie you want, like chocolate chip, peanut butter, sprinkles and red velvet. Then, fill it with your favorite ice cream. I enjoyed "The Classic" with chocolate chip cookies and vanilla ice cream. Mmmm. You can catch the Cookie Monstah's trucks all over the city and at Sowa Sundays.

CAREFULLY CRAFTED SANDWICHES AT NEWPORT'S ROSEMARY & THYME CAFE

Tuesday, April 28, 2015
Rosemary & Thyme Artisan Cafe is a hidden gem of Newport, Rhode Island. This cozy spot is tucked in, but just close enough to all of the hustle and bustle of Thames Street. For breakfast, choose from a variety of pastries (muffins, turnovers, bagels) and hot/iced coffees. The pastries go quick!

Rosemary & Thyme offers a variety of tasty sandwiches for lunch. I enjoyed "The Ultimate Grilled Cheese" with bacon, cheddar and caramelized onions on sour dough bread. It was very flavorful and filling. There are several pork sandwiches on the menu, along with the "Verona Chicken" which includes marinated grilled chicken, smoked bacon, caramelized onions and Gorgonzola cheese. There are several salads and flatbread pizzettes on the menu with funky toppings like sweet potato mash and even poached pears. Rosemary & Thyme has several vegetarian selections including a vegetarian grilled cheese with spinach, leeks and oven roasted tomatoes and a "Tuscan Sandwich" with mozzarella and tomatoes.

Rosemary & Thyme is open for breakfast and lunch. They have been voted "Best in Rhode Island" for "Best Sandwich & Grilled Cheese."

LOBSTER TOUR 2015: THE FIRST LOBSTER ROLL OF THE SEASON!

Monday, April 27, 2015
After the winter we just experienced, I'm ready for the summer. This summer, I'm going to sample as many lobster rolls around New England as possible. It's Eat Up New England's Lobster Tour 2015!

This weekend, I enjoyed my first lobster roll of the season. This warm lobster roll with melted butter is from the Bonefish Grill in Newington, Connecticut. It came with fries and coleslaw as any good lobster roll should. You can also order it cold. I kept the summer trend going, enjoying strawberry shortcake for dessert. The lobster roll is always on the menu, but the shortcake is a special right now.

TEMPTING TOTS AT THE WHARF PUB IN NEWPORT

Tuesday, April 21, 2015
The beer is flowing and some unique and tasty menu items are coming out of the kitchen at The Wharf Pub in Newport, Rhode Island. The Wharf offers a bunch of local and non-local beers on tap and by the can. I was happy to order a Wachusett Blueberry draft. There are also many wines to choose from.

You've got to order some tater tots at the Wharf. These aren't your ordinary tots. The Big Pen tots are wrapped in bacon with cheese sauce, scallions and BBQ sauce. Mmm. We enjoyed the Truffle Tots, which are tossed with herbs and truffle oil and served with black garlic crema for dipping. They are so good. Other apps include friend pickles, beef sliders, shrimp, wings and calamari. The Wharf also has a raw bar and seafood chowder.

There are several salads and burgers for lunch and dinner. Their grilled cheese made with Texas toast looks quite tempting. Some of their more unique entrees include BBQ pork mac & cheese, friend chicken & waffles, shrimp grits, and their Big Hoss Pork Chop. I ordered some pasta during this visit,  their Capellini al Fresca. It's served with a generous portion of shrimp, capellini pasta topped with shredded romano. Very tasty and filling.

Cheesecake and panna cotta are among the desserts. There are also several vegetarian and gluten-free options on the menu.

The Wharf Pub is one of the newer restaurants in downtown Newport and Eat Up New England is already a fan! I'm looking forward to sitting out on their back deck when the weather warms up.

BEN & JERRY'S BEER IS COMING

Thursday, April 16, 2015
Ben & Jerry's is getting into the beer business. The Vermont-based ice cream maker announced they are working with New Belgium Brewing to bottle Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale. The beer will hit shelves this fall. Both companies hope to use the money made to raise awareness about global warming. Will chocolate chip cookie dough beer be next? Let's hope so.

THE MAYOR'S MARINARA SAUCE!

Thursday, April 16, 2015
Buddy Cianci is a legend in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the mayor for many years, and yes he even did a little time behind bars. As a proud Italian, Cianci has been selling his own spaghetti sauce for years. I was surprised to see you can still buy it at a shop called Only in Rhode Island in Newport, Rhode Island. This must be some good stuff because one jar is $7.95.

IT'S FREE CONE DAY!

Tuesday, April 14, 2015
Ben & Jerry's is rewarding its customers with free ice cream today. It's their annual "Free Cone Day." You get a free scoop in a cone or a cup. I was at their Newport, Rhode Island location on Thames Street. There were lots of people but the line moved very fast.

ANNA'S TAQUERIA IN BROOKLINE

Tuesday, March 31, 2015
Grilled chicken quesadilla
For years, I've heard the buzz about Anna's Taqueria and I was finally able to try this Mexican spot out. This place is all about the food. They specialize in Mexican favorites like burritos, tacos and quesadillas. Choose from a bunch of different meats including grilled chicken, steak and carnitas. They also gave grilled vegetables for vegetarians, including corn right off of the cob. I'm interested in stopping back for breakfast. I love a good breakfast burrito and theirs come with eggs, sausage, potatoes, beans, salsa and cheese.

Anna's Taqueria has a bunch of locations in the Boston area including this one in Brookline, Porter Square, Davis Square and at MIT in Cambridge.

EAT UP NEW ENGLAND FAVORITE: ANTHONY'S NORTH END DELI

Tuesday, March 24, 2015
Anthony's North End Deli in Plainville, Massachusetts has been one of my favorite places to eat since I was a child. I don't live anywhere near it anymore, but whenever I'm home I make it a priority to stop there. It's just that good.

The North End Deli specializes in all of the very best Italian foods. They will make any kind of sandwich fresh for you. Their pasta salads are so good. My favorite is their tortellini salad, which includes carrots and broccoli. Be sure to try one of their many calzones. My favorite is the Italian with pepperoni, salami, cheese and peppers. It's delicious hot or cold. Another favorite is their stuffed shells dish, which comes with four cheesy shells and a big ole meatball. You can get many of their dishes frozen and they taste wonderful when you warm them up.

No trip to the North End Deli is complete without some of their desserts. They have a huge showcase of Italian cookies. I always bring home a bag of their champagne cookies - you know - the ones with the sprinkles along the edges. I also enjoy their strawberry cheesecake and Zeppole for St. Joseph's Day.

GOING GREEN FOR ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Tuesday, March 17, 2015
No St. Patrick's Day would be complete without a green bagel. I got mine this morning from Bruegger's Bagels. They dye their plain bagels green every year for the holiday. Einstein Brothers Bagels is also selling green bagels today. If you need something to wash your green bagel down, head to b.Good where they are offering their Three Greens Smoothie through Sunday. It's a smoothie infused with mint.

If you're going out for dinner tonight, you may want to stop by Margaritas where their margaritas are just $5 today. Miller's Alehouse in Watertown, Massachusetts has all of your favorite Irish dinners including Shepard's Pie, corned beef & cabbage and a corned beer reuben. They're offering a 20 ounce Guinness for $5.95 and an Irish Mule pitcher made with whiskey and ginger beer for $13.95. The Yardhouse also has a bunch of St. Patrick's Day specials today including corned beef brisket, shepard's pie and a corned beef sandwich. One of their special drinks is the Guinness Cinnamon Bear made with creme de cocoa, whiskey and Guinness. King's in Dedham will make green beer for you, along with Irish dinner specials, a live DJ and contests.

CELEBRATING ST. PATICK'S DAY EARLY AT THE WHISKEY PRIEST

Sunday, March 15, 2015
St. Patrick's Day is Tuesday, so we celebrated a couple of days early at The Whiskey Priest on the waterfront in Boston. This spacious spot has spectacular views of the water. Their mega-sized bar is packed with a large selection of beers and their whiskey menu is one of the largest I've ever seen.

I began my lunch with a lovely, cold pint of Guinness. Their lunch menu features a bunch of yummy apps like Irish nachos, tater tots sprinkled with parmesan, potato skins and chicken wings. There are several soups and salads, Irish pizzas, sandwiches, burgers and wraps. Since it's St. Patrick's week, I ordered the shepards pie. It was delicious, only I wish it would have been a little larger. Whiskey Priest also has Guinness stew and a corned beef dinner on their menu.

The Whiskey Priest has roof top seating in the summer. It can get loud and crazy on weekend nights with local bands playing.

DINE OUT BOSTON AT BRICCO

Monday, March 09, 2015
It's the second week of Dine Out Boston aka Restaurant Week. The North End is one of my favorite spots in the city, so I checked out Bricco. They are offering 3-course dinners for $33/per person. Every meal starts out with their Italian bread and olive oil and garlic cloves for dipping. I enjoyed the Wellfleet mussels to start out. For the main course, I really enjoyed their mushroom risotto. It was hearty and cheesy as it should be. With just enough room for dessert, I had to choose between bread pudding and tiramisu. That's a no brainer. I'd eat tiramisu everyday if I could, especially from a restaurant in the North End!

MOZZICATO BAKERY & PASTRY SHOP IN HARTFORD

Saturday, March 07, 2015
Get a taste of The North End at Mozzicato de Pasquale Bakery and Pasty Shop in Hartford, Connecticut. This bakery has been around since 1908 and is a favorite of all of the locals. There are several huge showcases of cookies, candies, cakes, pastries, gelato, Italianj breads and other Italian treats. They even have sheet pizza which I am very interested to try.

I was amazed by how many cakes they have ready to order. There are shelves and shelves of fresh-baked cakes. You'll often see one of their bakers bringing one out. Right now, you'll notice the huge sign in the window for zeppole. They come in three different flavors: vanilla, chocolate and ricotta. I got the ricotta and it is delicious.

They even have a cafe next door which has a full bar, cappuccino and many of they delicious pastries.

WOULD YOU TRY PEEPS MILK?

Thursday, March 05, 2015
Peeps sure has come a long way since I was a kid.  This photo is going viral on Twitter. The Just Born Candy Company is branching out and introducing Peeps-flavored milk this Easter. I'm not sure how I feel about this. They are also making flavored Peeps this year including blue raspberry, sour watermelon, party cake and lemonade. There are also orange creme-flavored bunnies. Check out all of the Peeps Easter products HERE.

VISITING THE NEW SHAKE SHACK IN DEDHAM, MA

Monday, March 02, 2015
Step inside Shake Shack's third restaurant in Massachusetts. It opened on Sunday, March 1 in Dedham in Legacy Place. Shake Shack hired about 35 new workers for this restaurant. Yesterday, I enjoyed a bacon cheeseburger, some fries and a lemonade. Delicious.

The new Shake Shack is just a few steps away from B Good in Legacy Place and it will be interesting to see if both will survive. By the way, Shake Shack is coming to Boston today, opening its first restaurant in the city in the Back Bay.
